Sergio Perez, after finishing third in the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix, insisted he now has to focus on consistently delivering strong results.
Perez entered the Hungarian Formula 1 weekend under extreme pressure to deliver a strong results with speculations surrounding his future at Red Bull, with Daniel Ricciardo returning to AlphaTauri and announcing his intent to become a Red Bull driver in the future, while Christian Horner has been complementing the Australian driver lately.
Perez's weekend started in the worst way possible, binning his RB19 in FP1, and then finishing ninth in Qualifying, but on Sunday, he drove a solid race to take third. He may not have been able to catch Lando Norris for second, but it was a decent effort nevertheless.
Reflecting on his race in
Red Bull's media brief, Perez said: "Today was a good one and it was great to get to the podium.
"We raced initially on the hard compound, which was quite tricky, especially on lap one, but it ended up going well for a long time and we got some good pace before going on the Mediums.
I lost 3kg in weight!
"The race today was not only very demanding physically, but also mentally, I had to focus on looking after the tyres. It was really hot and I ended up actually losing 3kg in weight," he revealed.
"It was a good result and now I just need to find consistency," the Mexican went on. "When the pressure is on you and you are able to deliver, it makes you feel proud of what you are doing so we just need to keep going forward and keep pushing. I am focusing on myself and making sure I deliver to the maximum. It is great to be given driver of the day but sadly that doesn't get you any points!
"Finally, the record of 12 wins in a row is quite incredible. I am really proud of The Team: they have made history and it is quite something to have been a part of that," the six-time race winner concluded, hailing Red Bull's record-breaking achievement.
The notable thing is that Perez didn't trumpet his aspirations of fighting for the F1 Title, which may be the best thing for him now, just to put his head down, and focus on maintaining his form, something Horner has always advised him to do.
