Esteban Ocon impressed during two days of cockpit duty in the world championship pacve setting Mercedes W07 during the Silverstone test this week and is keen to secure a Formula 1 drive in 2017.
Nineteen year old Ocon is currently Renault's reserve driver as well as a Mercedes DTM race driver.
He is contracted to Mercedes, but with Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg all but confirmed for next season and Pascal Wehrlein next in line, the young Frenchman is being linked to a race seat with Renault.
When asked by ESPN about his future plans beyond 2016, he replied smartly, "I don't know, the boss will decide what they want there in Renault. My target is to be in Formula 1 next year so I'm working as much as I can and getting ready for next year.
"At the moment, it's still too early to speak about that. I still have outings in FP1 [with Renault] that I will have to do. We will have to keep working on that and focus there."
Max Verstappen's sensational success this season in F1 is nod out inspiring teenagers, needless to say Ocon feels ready for the big time.
"The team was happy. I'm ready to race. I've been there for a long time around the Formula 1 paddock, so yeah I'm ready to race whenever there is an opportunity," declared Ocon.
