Formula 1 Race Director, Niels Wittich, will step down from the job he has held since February 2022 with immediate effect, the FIA said on Tuesday.
Wittich assumed the role of Race Director jointly with Eduardo Freitas,
the pair replacing Michael Masi following the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix controversy following he manner in which a Safety Car period was administered.
The race ended with Max Verstappen winning and denying Lewis Hamilton a record eighth F1 drivers' title, while the Dutchman took his maiden championship.
After rotating on the Race Director role with Freitas, Wittich
assumed the role on his own starting the 2022 US Grand Prix in Austin.
The FIA said in a statement: "The FIA can confirm that Niels Wittich has stepped down from his position as F1 Race Director to pursue new opportunities.
"Niels has fulfilled his numerous responsibilities as Race Director with professionalism and dedication. We thank him for his commitment and we wish him the best for the future.
"Rui Marques will assume the role of Race Director from the Las Vegas Grand Prix," F1's governing body revealed. "Rui brings a wealth of experience having previously served as track marshal, scrutineer, national and international steward, Deputy Race Director and Race Director in various championships.
"Most recently, he held the position of Formula 2 and Formula 3 Race Director," the statement concluded.
