Aston Martin are set to announce that Adrian Newey will be joining them ahead of the upcoming 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix next week.
It seems that all the speculation regarding the future of Newey, one of
Formula 1's greatest designers, will soon go away as his future will soon be revealed.
Newey and Red Bull
announced their split back in May after 19 years with the team, but the Briton's future was not announced at the time.
A reported clause in Newey's contract with Red Bull meant the former couldn't reveal his future plans until September.
Since the, Newey was linked with several teams, the most strong link being with Ferrari who have signed Lewis Hamilton for 2025 and were planning to get Newey on board as well.
However, as time passed, the talks regarding a move by Newey to Maranello faded and Aston Martin emerged as the best candidate to secure the British engineer's services.
Lawrence Stroll has been leading a huge, ambitious, project at Aston Martin trying to push the team up the grid, and having Newey on board would be a big boost for the project.
Aston Martin have signed a deal with Honda for power unit supply from 2026 onwards when F1 will launch new aero and power unit regulations.
Motorsport.com revealed that Stroll has played a huge role in luring Newey while a secret visit to the team's new Silverstone factory back in June seemed to have sealed the deal.
Newey has not been involved in the F1 side at Red Bull since the announcement of his departure, and is focusing on finalizing the team's hypercar project, the RB17.
Red Bull have struggled to perform since, as McLaren have overtaken them in the pecking order and putting pressure on them in both the Drivers' and Constructors' Championship.
