McLaren released on Monday images of their 2026 Formula 1 car, the MCL40, with a special livery which they will run in Barcelona's shakedown.

The 2025 Champions have not yet revealed their racing livery for the 2026 F1 season and plan to do so on February 9 ahead of the first official pre-season test in Bahrain on February 11.
The MCL40 will be the machine with which McLaren will attempt to defend their Constructors' Title as well as Lando Norris' Drivers' Title which will be a huge ask as it succeeds the dominant MCL39.
The closed five-day shakedown in Barcelona starts today but McLaren have revealed they will not be testing on day one as they look to maximize the development of their MCL40. They may also wait until day three to start testing.
The team will have an unchanged driver lineup with reigning Champion Norris sharing the McLaren garage with Oscar Piastri.

Papaya Rules to remain

McLaren have been in the spotlight for applying Papaya Rules back in 2025 when managing their drivers, which some saw as a disadvantage to Piastri.
The Australian, however, has insisted the team's intentions were not to favor a driver over the other as McLaren bosses claimed their approach will not change in 2026.
Piastri had a great start to his 2025 season and led the Championship for some time before fading away as Norris improved his form and caught up managing to secure a maiden F1 Title while also fending off a mid-season resurgence from Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen.
As was the case in 2025, McLaren will continued to use Mercedes power units in 2026 as the German manufacturer is tipped to deliver a competitive powertrain based on their huge success in the first hybrid era back in 2014 when their V6 turbo-hybrid was the class of the field.
