Brad Pitt was given the chance to drive a McLaren Formula 1 car at the Circuit of the Americas, and Martin Brundle, who was present at the event, was impressed with what he saw.
Pitt did a lot of driving while filming his recently released F1 Movie, but that was at the wheel of a Formula 2 car modified to resemble an F1 car.
But the American actor was treated to a
special event by McLaren, who made their 2023 challenger, the MCL60, and particularly the car Lando Norris drove that season, available, and then Pitt took it for a spin around COTA.
Brundle, the former F1 driver and current pundit, was also at that event and got the chance to drive the MCL60 as well as witness firsthand Pitt’s driving.
The Briton was impressed with what he saw and said: "He [Pitt] was good, he was solid out there. It's not easy to just jump in.
"There's a lot going on. It was a magnificent experience, and I thought Brad was a lovely bloke who did a great job in there.
"I asked him if he fancied a bit of racing and he'd obviously thought about it, he was like, 'I'm not sure about the side-to-side, the wheel-to-wheel racing’,” Brundle revealed.
Racing in F1 between 1984 and 1996, Brundle has amassed a lot of experience in F1 cars, scoring nine podiums in the process. Yet he hailed Pitt after driving the MCL60, his first ever F1 car to drive.
“He was impressive,” he commented. “It was my 73rd F1 car, it was his first, and he didn't crash it.
"There was a point when I was getting a briefing on how to start it up and which clutch paddle to pull and all that, and he just pulled up a chair and just sat and listened, because he just wanted to know more and more.
"It was one of the best days of my tv career, no it wasn't, it was the best!" Brundle concluded.
Pitt is not the first Hollywood actor to get a chance to drive an F1 car, as Red Bull offered Tom Cruise their car to drive back in 2011 at the Willow Springs.
