Formula 1 legend Niki Lauda was released from Vienna AKH Hospital today (Wednesday) after receiving urgent treatment in the wake of a bout of influenza.
The bug struck on 2 January forcing him to curtail his holiday with family at home in Ibiza as he was rushed back to intensive care.
With his rehabilitation on schedule at that point, Lauda then suffered the setback when he contracted influenza while convalescing during the Christmas period. This required further treatment in Vienna where specialised equipment, not accessible in Ibiza, was available for his care.
The report added that a stay in the ICU became necessary because of Lauda's lung transplant in July and the subsequent immunosuppressive therapy he had to undertake, however, it is understood that the 69-year-old did not need artificial respiration during the recent hospital stay.
An AKH hospital spokesperson confirmed Lauda had been discharged on Wednesday.
