Formula 1 will hit giant cinema screens across the United States in 2026 after IMAX and Apple TV agreed to bring five races from the FIA Formula 1 World Championship live to theatres for the first time.
Hollywood news website Deadline reports that the deal will see at least 50 IMAX locations screen five of the calendar’s marquee events as Apple begins its first season as F1’s official U.S. broadcaster under a five year rights agreement secured in October.
The selected Grands Prix are Miami on May 3, Monaco on June 7, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on July 5, the Italian Grand Prix at Monza on September 6, and the United States Grand Prix in Austin on October 25.
The move comes as Formula 1 continues to expand its footprint in the American market, with races now established in Miami, Austin and Las Vegas.
Apple’s Vice President of Music, Sports, and Beats, Oliver Schusser, said: “F1 is a rapidly growing force in sports and culture in the US, and by bringing F1 on Apple TV live to IMAX theaters nationwide, we’re delivering the energy and excitement to even more screens in a truly immersive way.
“We’re excited to collaborate with IMAX to expand access to F1 on Apple TV and give fans across the U.S. a powerful new way to experience the speed and spectacle that the sport delivers.”
IMAX sees live F1 as natural next step
The announcement builds on the recent success of Apple Studios’
F1: The Movie, which was filmed for IMAX release using IMAX certified digital cameras. The production became the highest grossing IMAX Hollywood release of 2025, generating $97.6 million worldwide in the format alone.
Distributed globally by Warner Bros., the film amassed $654 million at the box office, marking an all time record for Brad Pitt and for the sports movie category. The film was also re released on 50 IMAX screens on January 30 following its Oscar nomination for Best Picture.
Chief Content Officer Jonathan Fischer said: “F1: The Movie proved beyond a doubt that the speed, precision, and artistry of Formula 1 translate beautifully to the IMAX Experience, and we are very excited to further our collaboration with Apple and offer fans more of what resonated so deeply with that film by presenting live F1 races to them in IMAX .
“We look forward to working with Apple to amplify its live coverage of Formula 1 and give fans in the U.S. an all new way to experience this fast growing sport.”
With Apple now holding U.S. rights and leveraging the cinematic momentum of its recent film success, Formula 1’s 2026 season will not only unfold at the circuit but also on some of the biggest screens in America.
