Christian Horner reflected on Red Bull's 12th Formula 1 win in a row, breaking McLaren's record of 11, an achievement he claimed means so much for the team.

Max Verstappen delivered Red Bull's 12th consecutive win since last year's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and with that, the long-held McLaren record of 11 has finally been broken.
The Dutchman, despite missing out on pole to Lewis Hamilton, was untouchable in the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix more than half a minute clear of second-placed Lando Norris.
Reflecting on the race in Red Bull's post race press release, Horner said: "I remember as a boy, watching Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost race with McLaren-Honda and they achieved 11 consecutive victories.
"I knew then what an incredible achievement that was. To think that we have bettered that is testament to the exceptional talent and dedication of the team, from the race track here in Budapest and back at the factory in Milton Keynes.
"It's an historic moment and one that means so much, we certainly don't take this for granted," he maintained.
"Max was typically phenomenal once again," he said of the Dutchman. "He's at one with himself and the car. He has total confidence and trust in the team. What we're witnessing with him at the moment is a sportsman at the very top of his game. It truly is exceptional."

Perez was on fire

  • Horner had something else to be happy about in Hungary, and that was Sergio Perez's strong drive from ninth to third, a performance he has not been able to deliver for a while now.
  • "He drove a great race today," Horner said of Perez on Sky Sports F1. "His recovery and overtaking was brave, his pace was fast. The way he made the places - passing Carlos, passing Fernando, passing Piastri, the strategy that he had. He was on fire today.
  • "A race like that only gives you a huge amount of confidence. For me, that was a statement drive to say 'don't write me off'," he pointed out.
Indeed, Perez has been under extreme pressure to deliver following a string of disappointing results, with Daniel Ricciardo lurking in the wings, and openly claiming following his return to F1 with AlphaTauri, that his target is the Mexican's seat at Red Bull.
But Perez's drive on Sunday in Budapest, despite his disappointing qualifying, can be considered a statement of intent that he will fight for his seat, provided he can maintain that level.
