Times are changing in the F1 world and new announcements are coming thick and fast. On this occasion, the FIA has confirmed that they are not going with the planned six sprint events for 2022 but only doing three of them.

It has been greeted with optimism and fans like the decision to make the sprint races more competitive.
The three F1 races that have been decided to be part of the sprint races are the Milia Romagna, Austrian and Brazilian Grand Prixs but unfortunately, the committee has decided that Bahrain, Canada and Netherlands has been dropped from the equation despite big speculation that they would be included in the six sprint races.
There has also been a change to the naming of the qualifying Saturday races, which is popular with betting fans, has changed for the new season. It will just be called the sprint and not sprint qualifying.
Betting on the sprint offers great odds and has the best common features of new betting sites such as new customers' best odds or joining bets.

How was it decided?

It took months of negotiations and all things were considered in the decision by the F1 Commission, who deliberated meticulously about how many sprint events they needed. Reducing it from the rumoured six to just the three was well thought of but they decided it was for the best.
With the cost of more sprint races considered such as accident compensation, it was decided that the three events were enough. However, when timings were announced there were no scheduled sprint races announced until the announcement from the commission’s formal agreement.

What does the F1 Commission have to say?

The Commission were transparent with fans and the media with their decision by stating, “Following a review of the three sprint events that took place in 2021 and a recognition by all that the format created positive benefits for the sport, three sprint events were proposed for 2022, acknowledging this as a sensible number in light of the pressures already on the teams for this season with the introduction of major changes to the regulations.
“The Commission unanimously approved the three sprint events for the coming season, incorporating a number of updates to the format based on the feedback of fans, media and teams.”

New scoring system

Previously 3-2-1 was the allocation for the top three drivers but now the points will be awarded on the basis of 8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1.
The reason for this change will put more pressure on the Saturday qualifying race with more eyes on it looking out for the drivers finishing in the top eight gaining more points.
All the talks took place with the FIA and all the teams involved who are happy with the decision. It will be interesting to see how this will take off for the 2022 season and if it will stick around for the foreseeable future.
It certainly makes the Saturday race even more interesting!
