Williams Racing Academy driver Luke Browning will step up for another Formula 1 outing as he takes over Alex Albon’s FW47 for first practice at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, before participating in the post-season Young Driver Test.
The 22-year-old Briton joined the Williams Racing Driver Academy in 2023 following a standout 2022 season that saw him win the GB3 Championship and claim the Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award. Since then, Browning has maintained his momentum, winning the 2023 Macau Grand Prix from pole position and finishing third in the 2024 FIA Formula 3 standings with two victories and a Monaco podium.
This season, Browning has been competing in FIA Formula 2, where he currently sits third in the championship heading into the final two rounds. Alongside his race campaign, he has played a key role in the team’s Testing of Previous Cars and simulator programmes, aimed at preparing young talent for F1.
“It’s going to be an unforgettable weekend in Abu Dhabi fighting for the Formula 2 title while getting back behind the wheel of the FW47, and it’s a challenge I’m going to relish,” Browning said.
“The Young Driver Test will give me a final opportunity to help the team prepare for 2026 and I’m looking forward to being part of a Formula 1 weekend for the last time this season. Thank you to everyone at the Driver Academy and Williams for the trust once again," concluded Browning.
Williams Sporting Director Sven Smeets added: “Luke’s development continues to impress us, and we are looking forward to closing the season with him behind the wheel of the FW47. We have an incredibly talented group of drivers in the Williams Racing Driver Academy.
"It is important for us to give them the opportunity to progress as they move up the ladder. These final sessions of the season will give Luke another valuable chance to learn from Alex and Carlos, the wider team, and further embed with our trackside operation as he looks towards a bright future," added Smeets.
The Abu Dhabi outing will mark Browning’s second F1 weekend appearance as Williams continues its commitment to nurturing the next generation of talent through its academy programme.
