Ferrari F1 team chief has just dialed up the pressure on his team and himself ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
ESPN quotes Arrivabene saying, "After Hungary we cannot fool around any more. After that [race], we will understand what chances there are and where we are - and I believe that we cannot fail."
"Earlier in the season we had some problems related to certain components of the power unit, and these were sorted to the point that today our strong point is the engine. Now we need to work on reliability and other areas such as the aerodynamics."
These comments come in the aftermath of the weekend at Silverstone where the reds appeared to have taken a step down the F1 pecking order as Mercedes were clearly ahead, with Red Bull in front of them too in qualifying and race trim.
The Achilles Heel of the SF16-H appears to be the gearbox which has been fragile, particularly in recent races including last time out at the British Grand Prix where Vettel had to change the gearbox on his car and was thus dropped down five places on the grid. His race compromised before it even started.
"It's the third time that we have this problem and I think it's a concern. It's something that we need to resolve as soon as possible," declared Arrivabene.
"[Silverstone] highlighted the problems that are not only related to this track. They had already emerged in Barcelona and in Baku, but here were more visible."
"We have to work fast, but there are clear gaps. Apart from the gearbox problem that needs thorough analysis to figure out if it's a design problem or materials. I'll bet on the latter," added the Italian team boss.
