Fernando Alonso believes no foul play occurred at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, as the removal of Formula 1 Race Director Michael Masi remains a hot topic.

Alonso's latest media appearance was at the reveal of Alpine's 2022 F1 car, the A522 on Monday, and while one would expect the focus to be on the future, the new cars, and the potentially thrilling season ahead, he was asked by the media about the FIA's decision to replace Race Director Michael, after the investigation the sport's governing body initiated in the aftermath of the 2021 Abu Dhabi season finale.
Alonso expressed his satisfaction with FIA's new president, Mohammed Ben Sulayem's approach, and said: "The new president obviously wanted to make sure that everything was in place, as I said also a couple of times I like Mohammed, I like the approach he has.
"So if he thinks that we needed some new ideas there, it’s for the good for everyone, so I’m happy with that," the Spaniard maintained.

Alonso believes Masi did nothing wrong in Abu Dhabi

Alonso joined several other drivers who voiced their support to the axed Race Director, Masi, claiming that he has his own perspective on the matter, hoping the change wasn't instigated by the drama at Yas Marina back in December.
"On the whole theme of Abu Dhabi, maybe I have a different opinion," he said. "I don’t think that there was anything wrong there.
"I don’t think that they changed it [the race control structure] because of Abu Dhabi, or I hope not," the 2005 and 2006 F1 World Champion reflected.
Alonso's Alpine teammate, Esteban Ocon agrees the changes are a positive thing for the sport adding: "If the rules can be followed the whole time, and be more consistent, I’m very pleased."
Alonso has previously expressed his frustration with race officiation several times in 2021 with imposing track limits and what have you, with the Stewards' selectivity in looking at racing incidents.
