Mercedes have confirmed a senior leadership update, appointing Bradley Lord as Deputy Team Principal with immediate effect as the team adapts to the increasing scale and demands of Formula 1.

The move formalises responsibilities that, according to the team, have already evolved organically in recent years, with Lord now stepping into a clearly defined role alongside CEO and Team Principal Toto Wolff.
The announcement comes at a time when Mercedes point to sustained growth across their organisation, with the expanding global footprint of Formula 1 requiring a more structured distribution of responsibilities within senior management.
Wolff made clear that the change reflects an internal evolution rather than a shift in direction, stating: “With the growth of our team and F1, the scope of our operations and associated responsibilities at a senior level has grown significantly.”
He added: “We have therefore taken this opportunity to put in place a change that has effectively been operating in practice for some time.”
The Austrian also stressed that his own position remains unchanged, with the restructuring aimed at strengthening the leadership group around him.
“While my role and overall responsibilities will not change one millimetre, Bradley's work as Deputy Team Principal will further enhance the capability of our leadership group and provide continued support for me as our Team Principal and CEO,” Wolff explained.
Mercedes framed the decision as part of a broader trend across the grid, where teams are evolving their internal structures to cope with growing operational complexity.
Wolff underlined Lord’s contribution to the team’s success, stating: “Bradley is a dedicated and long-serving member of our organisation who has played an important part in the team becoming the most successful of the modern era.”
He concluded: “Aligning our structure in this way ensures our leadership group can focus fully on the areas where they can add the greatest value and is optimised to meet the demands of a rapidly growing sport.”
The appointment signals continuity rather than change at Mercedes, with Wolff retaining full control while reinforcing the management structure beneath him as Formula 1 continues its global expansion.
