Fernando Alonso’s great friend and trusted physiotherapist/ fitness coach since the early days of his Formula 1 career - Fabrizio Borra - has died at the age of 64.

Sports and motorsports veteran Borra passed away on Sunday in his hometown of Forlì, Italy, following a serious illness.
“I’ll miss you, Fabri. Every single day. Thank you for teaching me so much and making me a better person and athlete. My whole career with you has been the biggest luck I could have. Rest in peace, brother,” two-time F1 World Champion Alonso wrote in an emotional tribute on Instagram.
Borra was a constant presence in Alonso’s professional life from 2001, when the Spaniard made his debut in Formula 1 with Minardi. The pair developed a strong bond, and Borra remained by Alonso’s side across two world titles with Renault and through his various stints at McLaren, Ferrari, Alpine, and Aston Martin.
A father of two sons, Luca and Daniele, and husband to Enia, Borra was not only a trusted professional but also one of Alonso’s closest confidants. Despite the difficulties of his illness, he remained involved in the Spaniard’s career, including attending races such as the 2024 Italian Grand Prix.
In a career spanning several decades, Borra worked with some of the most iconic names in sport, including seven-time F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher, legendary cyclist Marco Pantani, and Olympic and World Champion riders such as Paolo Bettini, Daniele Bennati, Andrea Dovizioso, and Elia Viviani.
In recent seasons, Borra shared training duties with Edoardo Bendinelli, who gradually took over most responsibilities as his health deteriorated.
Borra’s death marks the end of a long and influential presence in Alonso’s career and in high-level sports fitness coaching more broadly. Tributes from across the motorsport and cycling communities are expected in the coming days.
Our Team at GRANDPRIX247 pass on our condolences to Fabri's friends and family.
