Following reports earlier on Thursday that Lewis Hamilton would be moving to Ferrari in 2025, the sensational move has been finally officially confirmed as Charles Leclerc’s teammate.

This means Carlos Sainz is surplus to plans and will be moving on. Whether it will be a swap deal with Hamilton remains to be seen. But for now, the highly-rated Spaniard has not commented on the latest development. His options could also be Audi in 2026.

Whatever the case for Sainz, Hamilton’s 11th Formula 1 campaign with Mercedes, the 2024 season will be his last as he finally takes a leap away from the Mercedes family and joins Ferrari for the 2025 campaign.

After years of speculation about a Hamilton-to-Ferrari move, it is finally happening and Hamilton will become a Scuderia driver in his 18th season as an F1 driver and at the age of 40.

Hamilton has always been associated with Mercedes since his F1 debut with McLaren that were powered by Mercedes at the time, and then switched to the Mercedes works team in 2013 replacing Michael Schumacher who went into retirement for the second and final time.

The seven-time F1 World Champion has recently signed a contract extension with Mercedes for 2024 and 2025 but there must have been an exit clause that would allow him to leave after 2024.

Following the announcement of Mercedes that they will be parting ways with Hamilton beyond 2024, Ferrari issued a brief statement announcing the Briton’s arrival at Maranello in 2025.

Ferrari said: “Scuderia Ferrari is pleased to announce that Lewis Hamilton will be joining the team in 2025, on a multi-year contract.”

Hamilton has 103 wins and 104 pole positions to his name, more than any other driver in F1. The last race he won was the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
