Ferrari revealed the name of their 2024 Formula 1 challenger, the car Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will be driving in the upcoming season.
Ferrari revealed that the car which will be unveiled
on the 13th of this February will be named the SF-24, and will succeed the SF-23, the team's 2023 single seater.
On
their website, Scuderia Ferrari explained the name: "Scuderia Ferrari's car for the coming season will be called SF-24.
"The team is therefore continuing the tradition of recent years which has covered almost the entire Formula 1 hybrid era. The SF naturally stands for Scuderia Ferrari, followed by the number of the current year.
"This formula was first used on 2015's SF15-T, the second hybrid season and the only exception since then came in 2022, when the F1-75 name celebrated the company's 75th birthday. This year's car is being launched on 13 February," Ferrari concluded.
The SF-24 will be the first F1 car from Maranello that has been developed and produced under the watch of Frederic Vasseur.
The Frenchman took over the top job at Ferrari in January 2022 replacing Mattia Binotto, at a time when the SF-23 was already finalized and developed.
Under Vasseur's leadership, Ferrari finished the 2023 F1 season third in the Constructors' Championship only three points shy of runner-up Mercedes.
Leclerc was fifth in the Drivers' Championship, having scored 206 points while teammate Sainz was seventh with 200 points.
Despite Red Bull's dominance in 2023 with the Max Verstappen/RB19 combo, the SF-23 in the hands of Sainz was the only other car to win a race, the Spaniard snatching an impressive win at the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix starting from pole.
Sainz was also on pole at Monza, while Leclerc bagged five poles in 2023 - Azerbaijan, Belgium, Austin, Mexico, and Las Vegas.
