McLaren have become the first Formula 1 team to fire up their 2024 single seater ahead of it planned reveal on February 14, 2024.
The team was also the first to reveal the livery of their 2024 F1 machine that will be named the MCL38 and will succeed the MCL60, their 2023 machine.
McLaren started the 2023 season in bad shape but shot to the front after a midseason upgrade in Austria that saw the MCL60 finish the season as the second best car behind the Red Bull RB19 driven by Max Verstappen.
The team released a video on their social media on Tuesday that shows the team firing up the MCL38 for the firs time under the watchful eyes of CEO Zak Brown.
The Woking squad with Team Principal Andrea Stella at the helm for the second season will be looking to continue the progress they achieved in 2023 and start 2024 fast out of the box challenging Red Bull from the start.
Stella who replaced Andreas Seidl who left to Sauber, oversaw a major restructure of the technical department in 2023 that saw James Key ousted as Technical Director and following Seidl to Sauber.
The Italian will also benefit from new hires in 2024 with Rob Marshall joining from Red Bull as Technical Director - Engineering and Design, with David Sanchez joining from Ferrari as Technical Director - Car Concept and Performance.
The team will field an unchanged driver lineup with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri leading their charge, the former
recently announcing an extended contract that will see him racing for McLaren beyond 2025.
