Aston Martin confirmed today, the Sebastian Vettel will be back in the cockpit of the AMR22 for the 2022 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
The German was sidelined ahead of the 2022 season opener in Bahrain, as he tested positive for Covid-19, which prevented him from taking part in the first race of the new F1 era.
The team called in Nico Hulkenberg to fill in for his compatriot at the wheel of the team's 2022 F1 car, the AMR22. Hulkenberg did well given the fact that he has not driven the team's car before, but the team suffered overall with Hulkenberg finishing 17th, as Lance Stroll finished 12th.
Ahead of the 2022 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the team announced that
Vettel did not return a negative Covid test, and was thus ruled out of the Jeddah race, as Hulkneberg deputized again for the four-time World Champion finishing the race 12th, ahead of Stroll in 13th, after another tough race for Aston Martin, where the team simply lacked the pace.
Vettel's return would be a welcome development for the team, as they suffer a horrendous start to their 2022 season, as the German's feedback and experience will be a great benefit to help the team in their attempt to salvage their campaign.
