Ferrari's F1-75, the most anticipated Formula 1 car ahead of the 2022 season, broke cover today with its red and black livery reminiscent of the team's F1 challengers of the late 1980's, early 1990's.
The Ferrari
F1-75 is definitely a looker, and the team and its Tifosi legions can only hope that it's as fast as it looks, to finally get the Scuderia out of the doldrums it's been languishing in for years now, with 2020 being particularly painful, and 2021 delivering a semi-revival in the form of third in the F1 Constructors' Championship.
Ferrari and its management, namely team principal Mattia Binotto, have been vocal about going 'all in' this year, trying to benefit from the clean slate the 2022 F1 regulations presented, which will definitely put more pressure on them to deliver, as they have sacrificed previous campaigns to focus on 2022.
The F1-75's name carries great prominence, as it celebrates the occasion when the first-ever Ferrari production car - the 125s - left the company's factory in March, 75 years ago, but more importantly, the team's 68th single-seater represents the hope of Ferrari's return to where it belongs, at the sharp end of F1 proceedings. Nothing less than winning will be acceptable.
Expectations are high that Carlos and Charles will have a car their stellar talents deserve
For that, the team can rely on one of the most, if not the most, exciting driver pairings on the F1 grid. Charles Leclerc, Ferrari's chosen one, and Carlos Sainz, the newcomer who wasted no time establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with in his new team.
Both drivers combine massive talent with experience by now, and are undoubtedly able to deliver the goods should the F1-75 turn out to be a quick one, and by that take the fight to the likes of Mercedes and Red Bull (who are naturally the favourites), thus possibly delivering a 2022 F1 season that overshadows a 2021 campaign that set the benchmark high in terms of excitement, controversy, and unpredictability.
As a reminder, the F1-75 was fired up on February 3, at the Ferrari factory in Maranello.
A word from Ferrari Chairman John Elkann
Ferrari Chairman John Elkann said after the launch: "Ferrari is the only team to have competed in every season of the Formula 1 Championship and has been at the forefront of pushing the boundaries of innovation in the pursuit of speed for over 90 years in motorsport.
"The F1-75 represents the very best in the innovative team spirit and the quest for performance that the Scuderia has always exemplified, and that has driven the performance of our road cars for the last 75 years.
"The responsibility of taking this car and delivering on the expectations of our Tifosi around the world now rests in the hands of Mattia [Binotto], Charles [Leclerc], Carlos [Sainz], and the whole team at Scuderia Ferrari.
"Their ceaseless efforts will determine our success as they look to write new chapters in our Formula 1 history honouring the spirit of competition that our founder exemplified," he said.
Elkann had a message to the Tifosi as well
Elkann did not forget the faithful Tifosi and addressed them saying: " Your passion and commitment fuels our performance as it always has.
"This year we look forward to rewarding your loyalty and returning to our winning ways," Elkann concluded.
The stakes couldn't have been higher at Ferrari for Binotto and the team to deliver on the promises of bringing the Scuderia back to the forefront of F1.
The F1-75 has been a long time in the making, and much sacrifice has been put in for it to have a proper inception. The team's drivers are the best within the F1 paddock, and just need their 2022 ride to be sweet handling, and then they can definitely deliver.
The next step is pre-season testing in Barcelona between February 23 and 25.
