Haas F1 Team, perhaps inspired by the lack of Formula 1 news, will be unveiling their 2022 car on Friday, which Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin will drive with Pietro Fittipaldi the team reserve.
Guenther Steiner had previously hinted they would be early with the Haas VF-22, and indeed his team have jumped the gun with Friday’s reveal set to be the first 2022 F1 car to break cover.
The Gene Haas owned team have become perennial backmarkers on the F1 grid over the past three seasons. Last year they were woefully off the pace as their inexperienced rookies toiled with a car their veteran predecessors Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean described as “evil” and “undrivable” which proved to be the case for the two young lads who replaced them last year.
However, F1 2022 is a new dawn with the gap between the minnows and the big teams hopefully reducing substantially, giving them a sniff at points and perhaps even podiums should the field indeed be levelled as expected.
Hence no surprise team boss Steiner was upbeat when he spoke to RTL this week: “My wish is that we can play in midfield. That our boys can fight. And we see how good our boys are now.
“We don’t know how good they are compared to the others. My wish is that we as the team picks up where we left off in 2019. That we can move forward again,” added Steiner.
Other teams will launch on the following days:
Red Bull: 9 February Aston Martin: 10 February McLaren: 11 February AlphaTauri: 14 February Ferrari: 17 February Mercedes: 18 February Alpine: 21 February Alfa Romeo: 27 February Williams: TBC
