FIA race director Charlie Whiting has responded to Lewis Hamilton's "trick things" grenade which he threw into the paddock, misinterpreted by many that the Mercedes driver suspected Ferrari was bending the rules when in fact he emphasised that this is not the case.
The
Belgian Grand Prix was comfortably won by Sebastian Vettel, with a
disgruntled Hamilton second but unable to mount a challenge during the 44 lap race at Spa-Francorchamps.
Speaking in the wake of the World Champion's "trick things" remark, Whiting said, "I'm quite amused by it really because we know quite a lot about the Ferrari car."
"There is no way that Lewis would know anything about the Ferrari car. They're doing a good job at the moment, and Mercedes have got to try and counter that, haven't they?"
"That particular comment doesn't actually say anything. If he says they've got a few tricks going on on that car, clearly they have got some things on the car which are giving it performance, which we're all aware of – all us in the FIA are aware of – and obviously we are happy with," added Whiting.
