Lewis Hamilton has been voted 2917 Driver of the Year by Grand Prix 247 readers, the World Champion scooping nearly 50% of the votes in the process.
With respect to those who cast their votes elsewhere, it was a no-brainer as the Mercedes driver won the championship with three races to spare and was really on another level in the latter half of the season.
He blitzed his teammate with ease and then set his sights on Sebastian Vettel’s points lead after the summer break Hamilton enjoyed perhaps the greatest spell in his illustrious career.
As the Ferrari challenge imploded it was Hammertime and he went on to notch up his fourth F1 world title – his third as a Silver Arrows driver.
Stats show that he scored points in all 20 rounds of the championship, winning nine times and finishing on the podium another four times. It was an error-free campaign for the British driver. His final tally of 363 points was 46 more than his closest rival in the final standings.
Next best, as voted for by the readers, was Max Verstappen with the second most votes, narrowly edging out Esteban Ocon in the poll.
