McLaren CEO Zak Brown and Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner buried the hatchet following the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix's fastest lap saga.
Daniel Ricciardo took the fastest lap of the race in Singapore last Sunday, after a late pitstop, and taking it away from McLaren's Lando Norris who won the race from Red Bull's Max Verstappen by 20 seconds.
That meant an extra damage limitation for Verstappen who now leads Norris in the 2024
Formula 1 drivers' championship by 52 points instead of 51 had the Briton retained the fastest lap.
We have seen before that one point may end up making a difference when the F1 championship is so close, the latest example being the 2021 season when Verstappen and then rival Lewis Hamilton entered the final race in Abu Dhabi even on points.
Since Ricciardo finished the race outside the points, having the fastest lap did not mean he scored the bonus point as the F1 regulations state the driver have to be within the points' scoring position to benefit from it.
That raised speculation that Red Bull have acted with VCARB - their junior team - to deny Norris an extra point as he continues to chase Verstappen with six grands prix remaining, three of which with Sprint format.
Similarly, in the world of online casinos, every little advantage counts. Many players opt for a
10 euro bonus casino to get an extra boost when starting out, much like a driver seizing every point in a tight championship race. A small bonus can make a big difference, just like that crucial fastest lap point could alter the outcome of a season.
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella labeled VCARB's move with Ricciardo as "peculiar" while Horner refused to be dragged into debate about the matter.
Sergio Perez, on the other hand, revealed Red Bull were discussing pitting him for fresh tyres to go for the fastest lap but then did not.
However, this matter has now been laid to rest as Horner and Brown, who shared the same airline flight on the way back from Singapore, has cleared the air.
In a post in social media, Brown posted a photo of him and Horner with a caption that said: "Peace in F1 has been restored on flight home (where’s Netflix when you need them!) - but the battle will continue on track. What an awesome sport!"
A quick and impressive conclusion for this matter given the history these two F1 bosses have, bickering about almost everything.
More importantly, it would be interesting to see whether the peace will remain intact if Norris ends up losing the title at the end of a season by one point.
