A dream came true for Lando Norris when he met his childhood hero Valentino Rossi during the McLaren's driver's first visit to a MotoGP when he attended the British Grand Prix this past weekend.
The 19-year-old rookie, who has been a revelation this season, was welcomed by two-wheel legend Rossi to the Yamaha pit garage where the pair had a chat and even discussed possibly doing a car endurance race together sometime in the future.
Norris said afterwards, "I have been following MotoGP for 13 years, it was my first passion before Formula 1, but I had never seen MotoGP up close. It's really fantastic especially to meet Valentino who has always been my idol. He is the best and has always inspired me."
"I could not be competitive on two wheels, but Rossi is also very fast on four-wheels and I know he will do the 12 Hours of Abu Dhabi in December. Maybe in the future, we could organize something..."
Ahead of this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix it appears that Norris is nursing an injury sustained while training during the holidays, but a McLaren spokesperson downplayed it and told RaceFans: โ€œIt looks way more dramatic than it is.
โ€œHe mildly inflamed a tendon in his left foot while out running while he was on holiday. If it was anyone else they wouldnโ€™t be wearing a boot. Itโ€™s belt and braces for a couple of days to isolate it while it recovers.โ€
Sergey Sirotkin is the team's reserve driver.
