LeBron James, Usain Bolt, Christiano Ronaldo, Lewis Hamilton, Novak Djokovic, and many more. What do these athletes have in common?
A tough, elite mentality that never backs down, even after defeat, injuries, setbacks, and challenging situations. Many athletes worked extra hard to overcome significant adversity and achieve a measure of greatness. Most times, all we see is the finished product.
This special report explores four ways that have taken them to their present level and how you, too, can build an elite mentality.
#1 Adversity is Part of the Process
Adversity lies everywhere, so you should always expect it. Whether playing
poker or training for a game, adversity helps you grow and become a better version of yourself. Besides, adversity is an opportunity to prove your mettle.
Pro athletes know adversity is part of the process and never see themselves as victims. Instead, they take responsibility for the situation and remain calm under pressure. Expect it so you're not taken unawares as you journey through life.
#2 Dominate the Controllable
Elite athletes always focus on things they can control, especially things within their grasp. For example, their attitude, actions, emotions, effort, and preparation are within their immediate control. They forget about everything they can't control, such as the ref's actions, weather conditions, and even the naysayers.
Don't just focus on controllable; dominate them and ignore uncontrollable ones that may cause frustration and poor performance.
#3 Quickly Move on
Letting go quickly is a vital asset. Elite athletes develop short-term memories of their successes. They savor the wins and the progress, but they're quickly on to the next. It's the same with mistakes and bad results: They learn from them and do better next time.
When you make mistakes, quickly forgive yourself, learn, and confidently move on without losing motivation. You know it's not the end of the road, and many opportunities are waiting ahead.
#4 Believe in Yourself and Your Purpose
Self-belief is non-negotiable. You have to want it more than anyone else and believe that you can get the job done. Athletes know the stakes are high and the rewards are in view, so they live out their purpose powerfully, whether that's on the field, the court, or the rink.
Like pros, you can own your purpose. Constantly remind yourself and stay inspired to pursue your goals until you achieve them.
Are you inspired?
You don't have to be a pro athlete to have a terrific mindset and mentality. There are more than enough areas to win in life, and as you wake up each day, you can rest assured that a definitive purpose will lead you to victory. Consistently work on yourself, striving to win without drawing back.
These four tips define many elite who go on to leave their mark on sports and life. Anticipate adversity, dominate what you can control, and quickly move on from setbacks. Whatever happens, never lose belief in yourself.
