Sebastian Vettel will drive Ayrton Senna's McLaren MP4/8, the car which he raced during the 1993 Formula 1 season before moving to Williams in 1994.
The MP4/8 was the last McLaren Senna drove before moving to Williams and, with it, finished the 1993 season second in the F1 Drivers' Championship second behind Alain Prost, having won five races that year.
In 1994, Senna moved to Williams but
tragically lost his life in his third race with the Grove-based outfit, after his fatal crash on lap seven of the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola.
Vettel will be attending this year's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola and, in a tribute to Senna, will drive his MP4/8.
Vettel announced his presence at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix on social media posting: "See you in Imola on Sunday on the 19th of May #FOREVERSENNA"
He said in a video he posted: "Ayrton Senna was not only a driver who I valued highly for being one of the best racing has ever seen, but also a man of great compassion.
"It’s been 30 years since his accident and I would like to pay tribute to Ayrton," he added. "I will be in Imola for the Grand Prix to drive his car, the McLaren MP4/8. I hope to see you on Sunday, May 19."
Vettel retired from F1 at the end of the 2022 season which he raced with Aston Martin. He won four F1 Titles with Red Bull Racing between 2010 and 2013.
His name has been recently linked with a return to the sport to replace Ferrari-bound Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes, but nothing has developed since then.
