Sebastian Vettel apologised to Tifosi for not delivering on their expectations at the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday, where Ferrari annexed the front row of the grid only to trip up and fumble in the race which was then wrestled away from them by Mercedes driver and their star driver Lewis Hamilton. Monza was heaving after
qualifying, the Tifosi united in a mass of joy and anticipation as they celebrated Kimi Raikkonen's incredible record-shattering pole-winning lap.
Needless to say, they packed the temple of Speed on Sunday to capacity, expecting a victory on home soil which eluded them since 2007, little were they to know, 24 hours later that anticipated victory evaporated.
Instead they were left disappointed again, some departed Monza before the race ended, perhaps even humiliated, while others hung around and took to booing Hamilton who for his part drove a storming race and simply did what he is paid to do: win races, this one against the odds.
Pundits were united in laying blame on Vettel for the mistake, while the headlines in Italy were not kind with Gazzetta dello Sport running the headline: "Own goal Ferrari"
Vettel acknowledged in his report after the race, "It's a disappointment for the people that turned up. I think they gave us a lot of support and we didn't deliver for whatever reason."
"There are many points to win back now in the championship, but we still have time to improve and we have the margin to recover. I am sorry for our Tifosi because they just deserved a different result," added the four-times Formula 1 World Champion.
Big Question: Has Seb lost the hearts of the Tifosi?
