On Monday, a day after his disappointing Russian Grand Prix, four-time Formula 1 World Champion went back to his roots for a day of karting at South Garda Karting in Lonato.
Vettel, who began his career in karting, was trying out a the six-gear KZ shifter kart for the first time on a day spent testing with top factory team Tony Kart.
The German was accompanied by Italian karting ace Marco Ardigò, while Joseph Turney (official Tony Kart Racing Team driver) was on hand to pace the Ferrari driver who spent learning trajectories, refining the set-up and adapting his driving to both the OK single-speed kart and the KZ.
TKART Magazine reports that "Vettel made several stints, sometimes stopping along the track to discuss the trajectories and driving style with Ardigò."
"In the wake of his disappointment in Sochi on Sunday, Vettel was content and in excellent spirits, comfortable and engaging with other kart drivers and fans at the venue during the course of the day," the report added.
Apart from driving, Vettel also got his hands dirty cleaning and fueling the kart when need be.
No doubt a serious 'Back to the Future' moment for the winner of 53 Formula 1 races, who began karting at age-3 and his karting triumphs included winning the Junior Monaco Kart Cup in 2001 before he started racing cars in 2003.
After his day at Lonato, the Ferrari driver returned to Maranello, for simulator work and to meet up with team boss Mattia Binotto.
