Verstappen: Mexico stressful on cars, but RB19 has been faultless

The high-altitude of this weekend's F1 venue in Mexico means the air is thin, which makes the turbos work harder on the power units of the F1 cars.

But Verstappen, on the back of his win in Austin is targeting another one, and confident his ride, the formidable RB19 will weather the tough conditions.

Speaking in Red Bull's race preview, the Dutchman said: "It's great to be heading to Mexico, the Team has a great history there, winning and taking a double podium in the last two years.

"It is of course Checo's home race so it will be a big one for us," he pointed out. "The atmosphere is always amazing driving through Foro Sol.

"Mexico City is the highest altitude track of the season, which is more stressful on the cars, but the RB19 has been faultless in most conditions so I'm looking forward to seeing how we will perform.

"We're also returning to the normal race format this weekend so that'll be good, as we head into the second race of the triple header," Verstappen maintained.

In Austin, the triple F1 Champion was pushed harder by Mercedes, McLaren, and Ferrari, especially Lewis Hamilton who finished a couple of seconds behind him in Sunday's Grand Prix, a small margin Verstappen has not been accustomed with so far this year.

He admitted: "Following Austin, we can expect the race to be more of a fight, but we'll use our strategy to our strength. The aim is to keep on winning."

Austin last weekend saw many Mexican fans cheering their national hero Sergio Perez who finished fourth in the Grand Prix, and Verstappen was booed on the podium, although there is reason to believe the boos were directed at Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

More boos might be expected this weekend, but Perez has urged his fans to support Red Bull as a whole, he said: "The support in Austin this weekend was crazy, so I can't even imagine what Mexico will be like, it's going to be very special.

"I want Mexico to come out to support the whole Oracle Red Bull Racing Team, not just me," he concluded.
