The next United States Grand Prix will again take place at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas. The event is scheduled for 23 October 2022 and seems set to be as well-attended as it has on previous occasions.
It will doubtless be an exciting race again too. Last time, Max Verstappen celebrated victory with Lewis Hamilton in second. Hamilton will be trying to go one better this time around as every point counts in the competition between the two fierce rivals.
New deal means event will stay at COTA until 2026
It’s not just this year that
the purpose-built COTA will host the United States Grand Prix; the track has signed an extended contract with Formula 1 and will be the home of the event until at least 2026.
This is good news for the venue that first played host to the Grand Prix in 2012 when it was opened specifically to host Formula 1 events. Since then, the race has taken place in Austin each fall with the exception of 2020 when it was cancelled due to the pandemic.
The renewal of the contract was not a big surprise given that the previous agreement had expired in 2021 but the event had remained on the Formula 1 calendar for this year.
Formula 1 has also been tying down long contracts with various venues lately, including Bahrain, Qatar, China, and Spain. So, the new contract for the United States Grand Prix was expected by industry professionals and fans.
Contract extension is good news for Fans, Austin, and Formula 1
Now that the expected renewal of the agreement has happened, Formula 1 fans in and around Austin are excited at the prospect of being able to continue seeing the action in person for at least the next five years.
This is a major event of the year for them, as it is for all American race fans. According to the experts at
JustGamblers, the United States Grand Prix causes a surge in online sports wagering as fans of the sport place bets on their favorite stars.
The contract extension is also good news for Austin which benefits financially from the influx of race fans and for Formula 1 itself as Austin is such a welcoming and popular location.
Formula 1 is also keen to extend its reach in the USA overall. The extension of the contract means that two major races are now secured in the country for the coming years after the
addition of Miami to the Formula 1 calendar until at least 2031.
It seems that the United States Grand Prix is being seen as a star event within Formula 1 as it attempts to optimize the potential of the US market. That is excellent news for race enthusiasts who will be counting the days until the next United States Grand Prix starts on Sunday 23 October 2022 at COTA in Austin.
