Yuki Tsunoda has admitted that he needs to find a way to "settle" as he seeks to avoid incidents during the second half of his rookie year.
While the AlphaTauri man has certainly shown flashes so far this season, he has been unable to string a run of consistent performances together, with crashes in qualifying in particular holding back his progress.
After his first 11 races in
Formula 1, Tsunoda has amassed 18 points, with his sixth-place finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix earlier this month his best result to date.
However, Tsunoda has only made an appearance in Q3 on three occasions, and has been outqualified by teammate Pierre Gasly at each race weekend.
Assessing his progress so far, the Japanese driver said that he needed to cut out the errors that had marred his debut year to date.
“I just can’t keeping continuing like that in the future,” Tsunoda said. “So I have to find out what’s the best way to settle more and control myself.”
“We need to really work hard to make the car better I would say for my side, especially my car," he added.
“Also for my side, I have to change, almost, my approach. I would say the approach I took from Azerbaijan has been better and I still need to work hard.”
