Toto Wolff insists that winning will not change Mercedes' approach in deciding who replaces Lewis Hamilton, while admitting having a quick car makes the team interesting for drivers.

After struggling since the start of the current Formula 1 regulations, the "ground effect era", Mercedes are finally out of the woods after two back to back grand prix wins.
The first win - George Russell in Austria - may have been down to the crash between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton's win in the British Grand Prix was achieved on merit.
But the elephant in the room remains, who replaces Ferrari-bound-Hamilton at Mercedes in 2025? And now there is another question: How will winning affect Mercedes' decision process?
Wolff told the media, including GrandPrix247: "It [winning] doesn't influence our thinking. I've always said we need a car that goes quick and when we have a car that goes quick we put the driver in and we get interesting, interesting for many drivers.
"But, in a way, I think we need to stay calm and continue to season, continue to focus on the car and then look at whether the options are still the same and... But it's not like you know this [winning races now is] changing everything upside down," he explained.
Mercedes since 2022, have shown brief moments of improvement that turned out to be false dawns, and Russell claimed the eight-time F1 Constructors' Champions are back, and when asked whether he agreed with his driver, Wolff said: "It does feel that way.

Mercedes did not expect to be back at Silverstone

"Because, last weekend [Austrian GP] we weren't far off. When you look at the gap that we had before the crash [Verstappen and Norris] it was maybe two tenths a lap, a bit more. And that is the closest we've been for a long time - on a track that we didn't like so much in the past.
"And that kind of gave us hints that it could be getting much better," he pointed out. "Honestly, we didn't think it would be Silverstone - because there's barely anything, just small stuff that we put on the car we were more expecting Budapest to Spa.
"I agree with George [Russell], we justified that what we do is right at the moment," the Austrian maintained.
While Hamilton won his final British Grand Prix as a Mercedes driver, his future team Ferrari are struggling and at a loss as to why their latest upgrade package flopped.
And while some might say Hamilton should be worried about his decision to head to Maranello in 2025, Wolff insists he has no regrets about losing the seven-time F1 Champion.
"In my life, I have no regrets [about Hamilton]," he said. "Because you cannot have regrets, we are adults, we take decisions, we go for it. That's the most important.
"So we got to finish the season on a high, provide him with the car that enables him to win, the team to score valuable points in the constructor championship. And it is what it is," the Austrian concluded.
Several driver have been linked with Hamilton's seat, starting with Carlos Sainz, while Wolff did not hide his interest in luring Max Verstappen away from Red Bull, not to mention then Mercedes boss' plans to bring in their young driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli in F1.
