Hans-Joachim Stuck, president of the German motorsport association, has come out in defence of departed Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug and at the same time dished out harsh criticism at the Silver Arrows team principal Ross Brawn.
Former F1 driver Stuck told Speedweek, "Brawn is solely to blame for the failures in F1 [by Mercedes]. The car was just not fast enough. McLaren clearly demonstrated the ability of the Mercedes engine. Even a small team like Force India ran ... the Mercedes engines with great success."
"The departure of Norbert Haug is a huge loss for motorsport," claimed Stuck. "He was not ultimately the one who designed the car. The car was the responsibility of team boss Ross Brawn. Haug was the one who put Mercedes on the motorsport map again through DTM and with the F1 project.
Haug resigned from his post late last year after coming to a "mutual agreement" with Mercedes. Niki Lauda has been drafted in to be part of the team's senior management with Lewis Hamilton signed up from McLaren to partner Nico Rosberg in the team. (GP247)
