Guenther Steiner claimed starting the Haas Formula 1 Team was his idea, but as he didn't have the money to realize it, he pitched it to Gene Haas who brought the money into the project.

Steiner has been at the helm of Haas ever since the team's inception as it made its Formula 1 debut in 2016 at that year's Australian Grand Prix with Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutierrez in the team's cars, the former scoring points after finishing sixth.
The team has went through several ups and downs since then, and while they have secured their maiden pole position in Sao Paulo last year thanks to a decent effort from Kevin Magnussen in mixed conditions, Haas are yet to win an F1 race, they haven't even been on the podium.
Steiner has since become a famous F1 personality, thanks to his performances in the Netflix docuseries "Drive to Survive", but he maintains he remains a "Haas Man".
In an interview with The Mirror, Steiner was asked about his future targets, whether he aims to go to a top team and lead it.

Owning an F1 team a liability

"What I would love to do is make Haas win!" he responded. "That is the desire I have, which is bigger than going into a team that is winning and just being an administrator of it.
"I am a Haas man – I don't know for life, but for the foreseeable," he maintained.
The Italian went on explaining how connected he is to Haas, that he takes ownership of the project despite not actually owning it; Gene Haas, who has paid for it so far, does.
"You'd rather not have an F1 team because it's a liability as well!" Steiner joked. "If it goes wrong, I don't have the means to keep it alive. I'm very conscious about that.
"The passion comes from the idea I had to make the team. I didn't have the money and still don't, but I found Mr Haas who had the passion and had the money to do it. And he let us do it.
"If you found something, I think you're more attached to it than when you’re called in to be the administrator for a period of time. It's a difference – even if the team isn't mine, it's still my brainchild," he insisted.
"Without Mr. Haas we couldn't do it, but we can do it and therefore I've got this passion to bring the team to a place where, one day, it can be without me," Steiner concluded.
