Oscar Piastri topped the second free practice session for the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix from Isack Hadjar who was surprise second as Max Verstappen was third fastest.
Piastri posted a lap time of 1:30.714 to go fastest, 0.132s ahead of Hadjar who was second as Verstappen was 0.143s off the pace in third.
And while FP2 was going to be the session to watch given it happens and night and is the most representative, two Red Flag periods disrupted the running especially as teams were getting ready to start their qualifying runs which meant not all drivers could set proper laps.
But for the second session in a row, two-time Formula 1 Champion, Fernando Alonso, remained in the mix and was fourth fastest in his Aston Martin, just 0.163s off the best time.
The Spaniard's lap was compromised as he was using the Soft tyres for the second time as he had to abort his first qualifying simulation when Liam Lawson crashed bringing out a Red Flag.
Lando Norris did not enjoy FP2 and was fifth fastest, almost half a second slower than his teammate and also suffered from an incident with Charles Leclerc as both drivers had contact as they were leaving the pitlane.
Lance Stroll was sixth fastest in the sister Aston Martin ahead of Esteban Ocon who was seventh in the Haas. Carlos Sainz was eighth.
While Ferrari were mixing it up with the top runners in FP1, their performance seemed to drop in FP2 as the SF25 appeared to be a hard car to drive.
Leclerc was ninth, 0.752s off the pace while Hamilton was 0.025s behind him in tenth.
It was another underwhelming session for Mercedes as George Russell crashed early, bringing out the first Red Flag, and did not rejoin the action. Kimi Antonelli was 18th.
Buildup towards FP2
It was a surprising start to the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix as Alonso topped the first free practice session, and while we know the AMR25 is strong when it come to slow corners, it remains to be seen whether Aston Martin can maintain this form for the rest of the weekend.
Other than that, it appears to be a three-way fight between McLaren, Ferrari, and Verstappen as all showed strong pace in FP1.
And while the first hour of practice took place in daylight, FP2 will be more representative as it take place at night which applies to qualifying and the race which means we should get a better idea on the competitiveness of each team after the second hour of running on Friday in Singapore.
We can also expect the times to drop as the track evolves even more after a bit of rain ahead of FP1 compromised grip especially as the Marina Bay Circuit is a regular road for the remainder of the season and will be green at the start of the F1 weekend.

FP2 Session Highlights
The session started under the floodlights in dry conditions with track temperatures at 32 degrees Celsius while ambient temperature were at 28 degrees.
Being an important session, the drivers did not waste any time and were soon out on track, with Medium tyres the tyre of choice this time.
Gabriel Bortoleto then had a moment, missing his braking point and ending up in the runoff area at Turn 7.
The drivers went on with their business banging in the laps around the Marina Bay Circuit.
Antonelli, 12 minutes into the session, locked up in Turn 14, but managed to stay out of the wall and ended up in the runoff area.
It was a peculiar session for Mercedes as, almost 20 minutes in the session, Russell going into Turn 16, lost control of his W16 that snapped and ended up in the barriers damaging his front wing and heading back to the pits for repairs.
"That was weird," Russell radioed as the Red Flag was out to clear the track and fix the barrier.
The session was restarted with 30 minutes remaining, but Russell was out of the car and practice as it seemed Mercedes deemed the damage too big to be fixed in time.
The drivers, after the session restart, bolted on the Soft tyres for some qualifying simulations.
But then, with 25 minutes remaining, and while Alonso was on a great lap, Lawson lost control and hit the barrier at Turn 17 breaking both wheels on the right side of his car and parked it at the entrance of the pitlane.
Red Flag once again.
That is how Lawson found the walls.
The session was restarted with less than 15 minutes remaining on the clock but as soon as the driver started exiting their garages, Norris went out and Ferrari released Leclerc at the same time.
The #16 Ferrari and the #4 McLaren collided with Norris hitting the concrete base where the pit wall equipment is place and broke his front wing.
The session went on with qualifying runs and Leclerc had a near miss with the wall but got away with it. Bortoleto had a brush with the wall at Turn 8. He then did another mistake and ended up in the run-off but also got away with it.
Nico Hulkenberg then had a moment of oversteer in Turn 17 and just barely managed to keep his Sauber out of the barriers.
Hamilton tagged the barriers at Turn 14 and backed off his qualifying lap as the Ferrari appeared twitchy around the track.
Norris also seemed to be struggling after his incident with Leclerc and couldn't put a lap together after a few attempts. He finally went fifth and almost half a second off the pace.
The session was concluded with practice starts.
