Cadillac Formula 1 driver Sergio Perez claimed he would rather suffer from problems on day one of running in Barcelona so the team could fix them and move on.
Cadillac are the newest team in F1 this year and while they have the support of Ferrari in the power unit department, they still face an uphill task on all other front to get running, let alone be competitive.
The fact that they made it to Barcelona while the likes of Williams did not is a great achievement for Cadillac. Aston Martin will also run two days towards the end of the week.
The American squad did not have a strong
first day in the private shakedown in Barcelona and managed only 44 laps in total.
Out of those, Valtteri Bottas managed 33 during Monday's AM session, while Perez could not do more than 11 laps in the afternoon.
That wasn't the birthday gift the Mexican, who turned 36 on Monday, would've wanted.
Perez reflected on a tough first day at the Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya and said: “It’s always challenging when there is a massive rules change.
"To get laps in is the main objective. We were getting some laps on the board, which was promising.
“We had a lot of issues today [Monday], which is good. It’s our first day, so it’s been positive in that regard.
"You want all the problems to come now, and hopefully the next couple of days can be a lot smoother for us," the former Red Bull Racing driver concluded.
Perez spent the 2025 F1 season on the sidelines after Red Bull Racing let him go at the end of the 2024 season after struggling to keep up with Max Verstappen.
He recently admitted that his foray with Cadillac will probably be his last in the top flight.
