The great Michael Schumacher did win his first two Formula 1 World Championship titles with the yellow of Benetton and did end his career in the silver of Mercedes, but he was and will always be a Red.
This is the assurance of his son Mick Schumacher who told
Jennie Gow on Mobil1 The Grid, “Our heart was always red and it always will be, It is something I felt more comfortable with and that’s why we decided and took the decision.”
The 19-year-old was speaking about his appointment to the Ferrari Driver Academy, a role he will dovetail with his 2019 Formula 2 campaign with Prema. Speculation is that he may make his debut with Alfa Romeo or Ferrari during the in-season Young Driver tests.
Schumacher explained, “For sure, I’m hoping to get some knowledge about how F1 really works. It’s going to be very interesting for me to test it and feel the speed and G-Forces, and to see how the car really behaves."
"But, more so, it is going to be important for me to know how to work with so many people behind me, and to understand the whole system. That is going to be very special and interesting because it will be new. I am really looking forward to that."
The German teenager remains adamant that he is in no rush to get to F1, "We are going to keep going like we always did. To keep learning is the main point of the junior categories."
"Even though we are now in F2, which is the step below F1, it is most important to take the information you can, learn and then – once you are in a position to – use it," added Schumi III.
