Sauber F1 Team is set to begin its 2025 Formula 1 campaign at the Australian Grand Prix, as the season kicks off at Melbourne’s Albert Park Circuit.
The Swiss outfit enters the year with an all-new driver pairing, featuring the experienced Nico Hulkenberg and rookie Gabriel Bortoleto, who will make his highly anticipated Formula 1 debut.
With a competitive midfield battle expected across the grid, KICK Sauber is focused on maximising early opportunities as the fight for points begins in a 24-race season.
Binotto: The start of a new season is a crucial moment
Mattia Binotto, KICK Sauber’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technical Officer, emphasised the significance of the opening race and the team’s long-term objectives.
“The start of a new season is always a crucial moment, marking the beginning of a journey lasting twenty-four races,” Binotto said. “We have worked hard during the winter period, and we are now ready to tackle the challenges ahead.
“It’s going to be a long, demanding season, and we know that development will play a key role as the year progresses, even as preparations for the 2026 campaign ramp up. Our focus will be on making consistent improvements, maximising every opportunity.
“We are committed to using the 2025 season to build a stronger foundation for our long-term goals and push forward all season long," the former Ferrari boss concluded.
Hulkenberg: Looking forward to getting the season going
Hulkenberg, who returns to the grid with KICK Sauber after departing Haas at the end of 2024, is eager to hit the track in his new colours.
“It’s great to be back in Melbourne – the atmosphere and the vibes around Albert Park are unique,” Hulkenberg said. “It’s always special to get a new season underway, especially in new colours.
“We are ready to take on the challenge ahead. Our focus will be on progressing and consistently improving as a team in all necessary aspects.
"While we are realistic about the steps ahead and the challenges we will be facing, we are confident in the progress we can make, and I am looking forward now to getting the season going," the German concluded.
Bortoleto: I’m ready to take on the challenge
For Bortoleto, the 2023 FIA Formula 3 and 2024 Formula 2 champion, the Australian Grand Prix marks a milestone as he steps into F1 for the first time.
“I’m incredibly excited for my Formula 1 debut – it’s a moment I’ve been working towards for a long time, and now it's finally here,” Bortoleto said. “The team has been fantastic with me throughout pre-season, and I feel like we have made solid progress in understanding the car and how we can work together.
“Now, I’m focused on making the most of every session. There’s a lot to learn, but I’m ready to take on the challenge.
"Each race is an opportunity to improve, and I’m looking forward to giving it my all and pushing both myself and the team to keep getting better throughout the season," the Brazilian rookie concluded.
With the lights set to go out in Melbourne, KICK Sauber enters the 2025 season with an eye on progress, development, and securing a competitive foothold in the midfield battle.
