The king of MotoGP and the sport's elder statesman Valentino Rossi has come out in praise of Max Verstappen, claiming it's crazy to reign in the prodigious Red Bull driver whose driving style is what Formula 1 fans want to see.
Speaking during an interview with Radio Deejay Rossi declared, "Verstappen is like [Johann] Zarco, neither one of them ever brakes. You have to move to aside when he comes along because the danger is that both of you will end up going out."
"It's crazy. If I was running F1, I'd want to see twelve Verstappens on the grid! Max is an exceptional driver. He is young, he makes a mockery of the system and he overtakes. Fans love those qualities," added the nine times World Champion.
Verstappen has taken the Formula 1 scene by storm and is a driver always guaranteed to entertain with his style and determination.
In 2016 Formula 1 rule-makers concocted the “Verstappen rule” to clarify to what extent drivers could move under braking to defend against an overtake, in the wake of drivers complaining about the youngster's defensive tactics at the time.
Speaking about his future Rossi said he would like to continue racing and hinted that Le Mans would be a possible target for his post-MotoGP exploits.
"I would like to race at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Alonso will also be there maybe we run together, so we can go out in the evening for dinner," he joked.
"I will race as long as I am competitive and as long as I want to," added Rossi.
