Daniel Ricciardo is set to make a return to full time Formula 1 racing, as reports have emerged claiming the Australian will replace Nyck de Vries at AlphaTauri as soon as Hungary.
It seems that Dr. Helmut Marko's patience with De Vries has run out, as a report in
De Telegraaf claims the Dutchman will make way at AlphaTauri for Daniel Ricciardo for the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix.
Ricciardo has been hired by Red Bull as a reserve driver following a dismal stint at McLaren, barring a win at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix.
Speculation has been rife recently that Ricciardo maybe getting ready to replace the under-pressure Sergio Perez at Red Bull or De Vries at AlphaTauri who has yet to prove he deserves the F1 seat he has been given by the Red Bull management following his impressive F1 debut at Monza last year, replacing an ill Alex Albon at Williams and scoring points.
Red Bull have continuously denied that Ricciardo is being prepared to make a full return to F1,
Christian Horner claiming as much over the weekend of the British Grand Prix, while Marko avoided setting a clear time frame as to when De Vries might be shown the door.
But it seems according to the Dutch publication that De Vries will not even make it up to the summer break let alone race at his home grand prix at Zandvoort after the break, with Ricciardo - on testing duty for Pirelli and Red Bull on Tuesday at Silverstone - taking his place in Hungary.
De Vries finished the British Grand Prix 17th and is yet to score a point for AlphaTauri with 12th being his best finish, achieved in Monaco.
Yuki Tsunoda, on the other hand has scored points twice this year with two tenth places in Australia and Azerbaijan.
