Daniel Ricciardo has said that he would have left Red Bull by this stage in his career regardless of his decision to join Renault ahead of the 2019 season.
The Australian spent five successful seasons with the Milton Keynes outfit, winning seven races across the period and twice finishing third in the drivers' championship.
However, with the emergence of Max Verstappen at Red Bull, Ricciardo announced his decision to leave the team for Renault midway through the 2018 campaign.
Ricciardo has since moved on to McLaren, where he has started the 2021
Formula 1 season with two consecutive top 10 finishes.
Asked whether he has any regrets over his decision to leave Red Bull given how competitive they have been at the start of this season, Ricciardo told
EFTM: "No regrets, nah. It’s true, no regrets.
“I got asked the other day ‘looking at Red Bull this year it looks like maybe they can fight for a championship, do you wish you were still there?’ or ‘So you think you still would have been there?’.
"Even if I didn’t move that year, even if I stayed with Red Bull instead of Renault for that one or two years, I think even by now I would have moved.
“I couldn’t have seen myself spending another three years there.
“Regardless of whether I went to Renault or not, I didn’t see myself at Red Bull in 2021.”
