Formula 1 is projected to surpass the NASCAR Cup Series as the most-watched motor racing series in the United States within the next decade, according to new research.

Analysing current viewership trends, the study estimates that Formula 1 will eclipse NASCAR in US popularity, placing the turning point around 2034. The findings reflect a consistent 15% average annual growth in Formula 1 viewership between 2018 and 2023, driven by increased media exposure, celebrity engagement, and the success of events in key US markets.
A spokesperson from SportsMillions.com, who conducted the study, said: “F1 is clearly on an upward trajectory in the US, with events like the Miami Grand Prix being a huge talking point – it makes sense that viewership will overtake NASCAR by 2034 if the current trends continue.
“NASCAR will always have a special place in the heart of Americans everywhere, but it’s easy to see the appeal of F1 – it has the glitz and the glamour we love to see in our sports.”
The Miami Grand Prix, which returns for its third edition on Sunday, 4 May, exemplifies F1’s growing footprint in the US, alongside established races in Austin and Las Vegas. Meanwhile, NASCAR has seen a 5% drop in viewership year-on-year between 2022 and 2023, attributed largely to its aging fanbase.
SportsMillions.com offers sports fans the chance to engage with racing and other competitions through free-to-play games and prediction contests, with opportunities to win real cash prizes.
