Red Bull are surprised and disappointed after the FIA's findings in the audit for the 2021 Formula 1 teams' budgets deemed them in minor breach of the cost cap regulations.
The
FIA finally announced their findings regarding the F1 teams' spending in 2021 under the cost cap regulations on Monday.
This comes after rumors and allegations have been circulating within the F1 community claiming Red Bull have breached the cost cap rules, with Aston Martin being in the same position.
The FIA revealed that Red Bull were in fact in "procedural and minor overspend breaches" while Aston Martin were considered to be in "procedural breach of the financial regulations", but no further details were disclosed.
Red Bull have vehemently maintained that their 2021 spending was with the regulations with team boss Christian Horner even going on the attack at Ferrari and Mercedes questioning how they acquired such confidential information.
However after the FIA issued their report on Monday, Red Bull issued a brief statement in response to the findings.
"We note the findings by the FIA of ‘minor overspend breaches of the financial regulations’ with surprise and disappointment," read a statement from Red Bull Racing.
"Our 2021 submission was below the cost cap limit, so we need to carefully review the FIA’s findings as our belief remains that the relevant costs are under the 2021 cost cap amount.
"Despite the conjecture and positioning of others, there is of course a process under the regulations with the FIA which we will respectfully follow while we consider all the options available to us," the statement concluded.
It remains to be seen the penalties that will be imposed on Red Bull with regards to their "minor breach", and what the Milton Keynes outfit's response will.
Should Red Bull disagree with the governing body's financial or possibly sporting penalties, they can always revert to the FIA's Cost Cap Adjudication Panel to review their case.
