Formula E’s first champion Nelson Piquet Jr has left the all-electric racing series to focus on Brazilian stock cars and will be replaced by British driver Alex Lynn, the Jaguar team announced on Thursday.
They said Piquet, whose father and namesake was a triple Formula 1 world champion, had departed by mutual agreement and with immediate effect after a run of poor form.
“Recent results have not met his or the team’s expectations,” said team boss James Barclay in a statement.
Piquet, 33, has scored one point from six races this season, compared to 36 for teammate Mitch Evans.
“I am still very passionate about Formula E having been involved since the start and winning the inaugural championship,” said the Brazilian who competed in 28 F1 Grands Prix.
