Every racing kid's dream is to become a Formula 1 driver, for a significant most that never happens and even less so does one of the 'dreamers' get to win a Grand Prix as McLaren's Oscar Piastri did in Hungary, on Sunday.
His dream came true. With his maiden F1 victory, the 23-year-old (aka the youngest driver on the current F1 grid) Piastri became only one of 115 drivers, of the 776 who started a Grand Prix, to win one and with the accolade he etched his name in F1 immortality.
No surprise the Australian, who is being hailed Down Under for his maiden F1 victory at Hunagroring, is still absorbing the impact of his achievement yet, with the Belgian Grand Prix weekend a few days away, Piastri is already thinking of win number two!
Speaking in a video released on X today, Piastri said: "Hey everyone. So, 24 hours on from a pretty epic moment in my career so far, I just wanted to send a quick video post saying thank you for all the support, especially everyone who was there at the track.
"I think they said after the race there were a lot of Aussie flags out there. So thanks for all your support from from Down Under. Thanks to everyone who cheered me on as well as was pretty special to be a part of that.
Piastri: Yeah, it's kind of hard to take in at the moment.
He continued: "You just realise what you've accomplished and how long you've been waiting for that moment. Something I've dreamed of since I was a kid.
"Starting to sink in a little bit more and just very, very happy. So we'll go again this week, and try to get the second one on the board. Thank you for all your support and keep it coming," said Piastri.
Before adding: "And one race win up and an extra five euros to the fan... you know who you are. You might have to give me five euros every weekend. So thank you very much, everyone. Let's celebrate again this week."
Piastri's victory puts him in the
company of Australian F1 drivers who won races too. Including the likes of his mentor Mark Webber, a nine-time Grand Prix winner.
The Aussie GP winners are VCARB's Daniel Ricciardo with eight wins to his name as well as F1 World Champions Alan Jones with 12 wins and triple F1 World Champ Jack Brabham with 14 wins.
