Oscar Piastri's brave pass on teammate Lando Norris at the start of the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix was key for taking victory, and the Aussie knew that pretty well heading into the race.

After the race was delayed due to rain and following a few laps behind the Safety Car, the Formula 1 field was unleashed to race with Norris leading, but Piastri struck immediately, passing his teammate on the Kemmel straight after a brilliant pass in treacherous conditions.
Anyone watching the race would've felt Piastri was about to rear-end Norris as he attempted to pass, but he jumped out of the wake of the #4 Papaya car in the last minute, making the move stick and then driving off to take his sixth win this season.
However, when the track dried out, Piastri pitted for Medium tyres, while Norris went for the Hards, hoping he could push for the remainder of the race and launch an attack on his teammate towards he end for the win.
But Piastri drove a masterful race, managing the gap and taking care of his tyres, and along with a couple of mistakes from Norris, managed to protect his lead and take the chequered flag first.
"It's a great feeling to win one of my favourite races," Piastri said in McLaren's race report. "I knew Lap 1 was probably my best chance of winning, so I committed and managed to make it work, which I am proud of.
"We then managed the rest of the race really well. I struggled a bit towards the end of the Medium, but I felt we had it under control.
"Thank you to the team for giving us a great car this weekend. I'm excited for Hungary," the 24-year-old from Melbourne concluded.
Winning in Spa was very important for Piastri, as it stopped Norris' streak, who has won the last two races in Austria and the UK.
He has now extended his lead over his teammate in the 2025 F1 Drivers' Championship to 16 points with 11 races remaining this season.
