Sergio Perez heads to the track where he delivered a great Formula 1 race victory in 2023, the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, and is hoping to repeat his feat this week.
Perez will definitely be hoping to win again in Jeddah, but he has one problem; his teammate Max Verstappen who has won every race since the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix.
The Mexican had a decent start to his 2024 season, his last with Red Bull under his current contract, finishing second behind Verstappen in the
season opener in Bahrain, which is exactly what the team wants from him.
Looking ahead to this weeks race, Perez said in
Red Bull's race preview: "I am looking forward to heading to Jeddah this weekend after such a good Team result in Bahrain.
"Things weren't totally perfect in the first race and there is plenty of evolution to be done with the car but we have a good base to work from now.
"There is always plenty of action at this race and it could be a really tight one. Last year I had a great win and would love to repeat it," Perez concluded.
Verstappen: Interesting to see difference in performance between teams
Verstappen, dominant in his Bahrain win, stuck to the same narrative of managing expectations using the differences between Sakhir and Jeddah as a reason to be cautious.
He said: "The Team had a great first race of the season and I am looking forward to Jeddah, which is a proper high speed semi street circuit, seeing less degradation on the tyres.
"It is going to be a bit warmer too compared to Bahrain, so will be interesting to see the difference in performance between all teams, as the track layout is completely different to last week.
"Last year it was a good track for us so let's hope we can do something similar and secure a great performance for the Team," the Dutchman concluded.
Verstappen will be looking to continue his winning streak in the last eight grands prix that started from the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix, as he looks to secure a fourth F1 Title in a row.
He finished second behind Perez in Jeddah in 2023, and would be looking to going one position better this time around.
