Lando Norris reflected on a dominant pole position ahead of Title rival Max Verstappen at the Dutch Grand Prix.

The 2024 Formula One World Championship has proven to be more competitive than many envisaged. With Red Bull encountering issues with their RB20 car and the likes of Mercedes, McLaren and Ferrari upping their games, both Titles are still very much in the balance.
McLaren's Lando Norris is Championship leader Max Verstappen's closest rival in the Standings, and the former has looked the quicker of the pair in recent races. The trend appears to have continued after the summer break, as Norris topped the first practice session around Circuit Zandvoort on Friday.
He followed this up with a spectacular pole position during Saturday's Qualifying, setting a time almost four tenths faster than Verstappen who will line up alongside the McLaren driver for the race.
Norris will likely have the crowd against him on Sunday, with a fervent Dutch crowd willing their countryman Verstappen on to mount a challenge for the lead. Furthermore, tensions between the rivals have ramped up ever since their race-destroying collision while fighting for the win at the Austrian Grand Prix, although both have stated that they remain good friends.
Nevertheless, Norris is relishing an exciting battle with Verstappen at the latter's home Grand Prix.

Conditions today made it challenging

In a press release by McLaren after Qualifying, Norris was delighted to be firing on all cylinders straight after the summer break. He said: "An impressive Saturday. It’s nice to be back starting the second half of the season with pole position.
"Qualifying was pretty smooth, with good laps, especially the last one. The conditions today made it a little more challenging and with every lap you had to reassess how much more you could push and where the limits were," added the 24-year-old.
Norris expects Verstappen to be on his tail straight away in the race: "I'm sure Max will put up a good fight at his home race tomorrow, but I’m looking forward to it and will work hard overnight to prepare with the team.
"I felt very comfortable today, the car was strong, and the team have done a great job so far, so a big thank you to them for their hard work," concluded Norris.
The Dutch Grand Prix commences Sunday 25 August at 14:00 BST (15:00 local time). Can Norris hold on at the front to win his second Grand Prix of the season?
