Red Bull billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz claims that Formula 1 is "staring into the abyss" because under fire Bernie Ecclestone is instrumental for the well being of the sport.
On Tuesday, Formula 1's long-time chief executive and self styled supremo Ecclestone will be back in a Munich courtroom, battling for his future and freedom over the Gerhard Gribkowsky bribery affair.
Mateschitz, the founder of Red Bull, said that he is worried about Formula 1's future in the event that the sport needs to plan ahead without the diminutive Briton.
"It is very difficult to find someone who can carry on with Formula 1 [after Ecclestone] on both the sporting and financial side," he told the Austrian newspaper Salzburger Nachrichten. "At the moment I know of no one." (GMM)
